12:31 pm - Milwaukee Steampunk Event A post for interested folks who aren't on the central_steam journal: Milwaukee Chamber Theatre announces “Steampunk Night” on Thursday, August 20 in conjunction with the production of AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS. The design, set and costumes of AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS are inspired by the steampunk aesthetic. On “Steampunk Night,” MCT invited enthusiasts to wear steampunk attire to receive a HALF-PRICE TICKET for the 7:30 p.m. show on Thursday, August 20. The event will start with pre-show activities hosted by Steam Century in the lobby. Then, after the show a concert by Madison-based steampunk band Eli August at 10:00 p.m. in the Skylight Bar & Bistro. Anyone up for an entourage? 09:28 pm - Walking! Pictures! Food! Today I walked a touch over six miles in total, including a trip to the last farmer's market of the year, to the library to get my card and some delicious looking new books, to Asia Mart (yes, it's really called that), and to the local Ethiopian restaurant, where I got to have sambussa. They're like samosa, but full of sagey lentils. Eating in season is cheap, especially when you aren't buying particularly romantic vegetables. For twelve bucks, I got two bunches each of carrots, beets and turnips, a pumpkin for Samhain night soup, three large colored peppers and a carton of pretty colored eggs. 07:46 pm - Change In Plans! Well, the current tenant moved out early, so I get to head up to my new, shiny apartment a week before I'd planned to. I'll be heading up on Thursday to get my keys, and moving will be accomplished Saturday. So, folks who wanted dates to see me before I left town should get their bids in soon.
